This series was far funnier than SNL ever could hope to be. The acting and writing were pure genius and unlike most SNL skits, it is still funny and relevant today. The wide acting range the actors possessed, timing and expressions are still unmatched today. It is a minor tragedy that the show is so unknown and even during it's run was little known. It's ultra late time slot after SNL was a mistake. Had this run on Prime Time we would be talking about it with the reverence of Taxi and The Barney Miller show. Everyone was a talented star and gem in their own right- so much talent came out of this show and they are still out there, knocking it out of the park today. SCTV was almost picked up on ABC. The network's late night decision maker “loved” what he saw of the pilot, but ABC President Fred Silverman overruled him, saying the show was “too intelligent” and "would go over people's heads". I have been re-watching the show and I am still floored by the acting and laughing out loud. Not that Katherine O'Hara is a slouch but could Andrea Martin be the funniest woman ever? Or, what about Katherine O'Hara as Brooke Shields, suddenly putting her bare foot under her nose and having a sniff during a talk show? What a team -one simply outdoes the other and not at the expense of another but with impeccable timing, team-work and craft. John Candy's seemingly off the cuff remarks are side-splitting- I could go on and on forever......
