As the first show to bring Star Trek back to TV since the end of Enterprise, it has a very unique aesthetic amongst Trek shows. Sure, it’s made some controversial decisions, but ultimately those are surface-level and just serve to give the show its identity, while on a deeper look it shows it truly understands the heart and soul, and the fundamental political message, of Star Trek. And just to make it better, as the show has continued, it’s really found its footing, and moved out of needing to constantly work on the basis of nostalgia, and is telling interesting stories that continue the progressive and hopeful legacy of the franchise

I’d heard a lot of dislike for the film, and just didn’t get why after watching. The actors are generally good. The acting for Dr Reyes is a bit flat, and seems disingenuous in the beginning, but considering the end, it makes sense (and at the end the acting for her is a lot better, which leads me to believe the flatness at the beginning was deliberate). The patients are all very good, and their struggles against themselves and their expectations really lands. I think anyone can find stuff to resonate with in them (though if you resonate with Reyes, I’m worried for you). Also, the film is gay. I’m a huge fan of sapphic horror, so I’m biased and really enjoyed that aspect of it. But honestly, the relationship felt very genuine
