His fifth album, Changes, builds up on the sounds of Purpose, but in turn dives away from a pop-EDM collision that was the highlight of the last album. The music in this album has matured, and I'll say that they've matured well. They take close inspiration from both Journals, and Purpose. As expected, Justin sounds the best when he's singing RnBieber. It isn't exactly an RnB album, but does a good job of landing right hits. Lyrically, the album gives tight competition to some tracks of Purpose, but they feel lacking in execution and pace, something the Purpose album did so well. Justin's vocals give the most powerful impact, as usual, but somehow after hearing the entire album a good 6 times top to bottom, something seems lacking. It's a wonderful album, sure, but don't expect tracks to be dominating charts anytime soon. Yummy and Intentions are intended to be catchy and ruling the charts, as expected. However, go into this album with not the mindset of finding bangers, but understanding Justin, and his life's journey as a musician. His emotions and sounds have matured in a way that hits right in the feels. Maybe if you drop the expectation of Purpose, you'll be able to see a wonderfully pieced album that is his third best offering to the world. Of course, after Journals and Purpose.
