IMO, this is a show about failure. But a feel good failure! Why? Because people spend a lot less and fail, so when they see someone else fail in the millions of dollars, their own failures don't seem near as bad and they say to themselves, "I didn't fail THAT bad!" and they feel good about it and sympathize and so watch and wonder "What in the world are they gonna do now?" Of course we know the show is anything but a failure and it seems my grandchildren will be watching season 60.
I said from day 1, why in the world are there not metal detectorists all over the place looking for signs of evidence who inhabited this isle, because if it was the Knights Templar, or the Romans, or the Vikings, or Pirates, then there would be evidence of their existence because to build such an elaborate place to hide something so extraordinary, they must have been there for a long time and there should be some clear evidence of one, not all of the above.
I love the concept, the history...but I don't like being tricked into watching and by the end of the show someone found a piece of wood or artifact that could be found just about anywhere, and so I feel like I was duped the first few seasons and said to myself, if they ever find anything worth making a show out of, I'll hear about it on the news, then watch. And we know if they really ever do find something substantial, it will be on the news. I hope they prove me wrong but from what I've seen so far, I doubt it. Good thing they own the land because in my world of metal detecting, I would never be alowed to dig up the earth so hap hazzardly. This operation is radical and makes no sense how it's planned & carried out. They don't even use a pinpointer! lol A $120 device that all detectorist have that I know, which will save you from destroying the item before it's pulled from the ground. *update: just watched the latest episode and noticed they actually pulled out and used a pinpointer,(it's about time) waving it in the air to let all know. It seems every time from here on in, we'll see one in action. I guess the producers are reading these reviews!
People find treasure all the time, myself included, not the holy grail, but I've found more valuables in one day at the beach with a $400 metal detector than I've seen found in years on this show from rings, gold chains, coins, and other amazing artifacts and if your lucky there may be a precious stone attached to the precious metal. I never really considered what I've found as treasure but compared to what they found on this show, I guess it is. You don't need to travel far to find good stuff because it seems to be near everywhere there were people.
I think the guy who found the pirate ship on the Cape was on the show! I was a bit surprised and thought, "ok, now were gettin somewhere!" but then he disappeared. As you know, I swore I would never watch this show again until I see it in the news, but I guess everything else on TV is not so great either, mostly because we've already seen it, so I tune in once in a great while, until I get upset and change the channel.
Good luck guys! Today is the day!
