This is a really great film and I was very happy to see William Friedkin's return to fine film making after the down right awful “Deal of the Century”. Like he did with The French Connection, Friedkin used new-comers and relatively unknown actors to great effect with his quick paced “hit and run” style of film making, many scenes shot once without rehearsals. William Petersen is superb as the slick, unhinged, adrenaline addicted Secret Service Agent. He's totally hell-bent on catching Rick Masters, an elusive, dangerous counterfeiter excellently played by a creepy Willem Dafoe. John Turturro has a small but memorable part as one of Masters' “Mulls”. One of the best scenes shows Rick Masters making counterfeit money. For authenticity Friedkin got permission to use the actual equipment used by a real counterfeiter who did prison time and was hired as a technical adviser. A fine music score by Wang Chung with plenty of synth heavy moments which added to the suspenseful scenes. The car chase scene is one of the best ever filmed. And the ending of the film is really original. Highly recommended but sadly Friedkin's last great film.
