(Spoiler free)
For new generation of gamers, It is a very decent, great medium sized game. Took me 8 hours in hardcore difficulty, which I recommend for all, to beat it. People claiming it to be really short aren't exactly correct.
My review will be based with a lens of a mature RE player who is part of its family and understanding since 1996
Here are the Cons first; as they really are VERY hurtful for the early RE fans like me;
My greatest disappointment: 'Nemesis"
1) The sheer marvel of an "A.I" Mr.X from RE 2 Remake was!! That classiness couldn't be further enhanced and continued unfortunately with this entry. All I dreamt was (As an original RE 3 era matured gamer) was an ultra intelligent nemesis chasing and searching me in a 'wide open' Racoon city settings, which included well crafted explorable buildings and streets. Instead what was given were short burst of 'scripted' encounters in a very very short confined set of areas, and that too at the starting part of the game. I have been dreaming about this settings since 20 years and boy Capcom just sunk my heart and emotions into oblivion by doing this injustice and disservice. RE 3 was all about nemesis back then and it struck anxiety and fear in the hearts due to the persistent AI of its time. Throughout the entire original RE 3, nemesis always felt lingering around you and had that 'out of nowhere' & 'at anytime' factor attached to it. It was a PS 1 technical marvel. With this installment all this juice is compromised by rushed expected scripts. It felt faced paced though and the action element was great but the original fear and anxiety of 'Nemesis lingering in Racoon City' has been compromised due to the "shallow vision" of modern developers. RE 3 original was all about feeling Racoon city, its dread, and its nightmare directly felt due to Nemesis. All this subtracted.
2) Reduced and missing areas:
The most awful part of this entry was that soo many vital areas of the original had been SUBTRACTED and it felt a slap on the face for my generation of RE fans. For example, clocktower, graveyard, dead-factory etc were such important and detailed parts of the original and its overall dreadful experience, its impossible to comprehend why the devs did this crime. Even the hospital section, which is 'good' also felt 'reduced'. This makes the original entry a much longer, lengthy and beefy experience than this one. Due to this change the nostalgia factor kicks in and one may feel symptoms of depression due to the 20 year old memories and time spent in those areas missing now. RE 2 also did a bit of this crime but those devs got away due to the sheer class in other good aspects of the game. Both remake's RE 2 and RE 3 made the areas felt 'reduced' in volume, than the original but RE 3 remake had nothing to offer to cover it up.
3) Degraded combat:
The guns felt week, had a VERY VERY POOR sound design. The enemy animations were poor when hit by weapons. All combat was STEPS BACK from RE 2 remake.
Now here are the pros;
Enjoyable action packed visual, great graphics and time well spent for newer gen of players. Grind is very low and youll always remain on your toes.
Conclusion:
Had there been the vision and heart of the original, this game would be totally something else and one of its own in the entire genre. That to loved by all. God of War set that example.
"A slap on the face of original fans and a good service towards layman of the genre, is how I will end this review on a very hurtful, sad and anguished note."
