I was 15 in 1980 and was waiting for the “next Beatles” to come and take over the music world. If you lived that period like I did, this was the post-disco and the heart of punk during the height of The Clash, CBGB grads and right before the dawn of commercial MTV. From Ireland, here they came, Bono and his buddies U2! That was exciting…Boy, October, then War exploded onto America and we never looked back. The “next Beatles” were here and we did find what we were looking for. Now it’s 2023, U2 is still here and “Songs Of Surrender” still shows the creativity of one of the greatest bands to ever exist. Yes, this is a box set of many of their classics BUT redone so perfectly that they become reborn as new songs. Listen to Beautiful Day or Pride or even One and you will hear why U2 still matters in 2023.

David Chase did a remarkable job with character placement and to portray the roots of Tony Soprano, mixing in the turbulent times of the 60’s and 70’s. Those of you who are looking for another mob movie, this is not supposed to be a Good Fellas but instead something like a Godfather 2 when you got to see how a young Don Vito Corleone grew up and the obstacles he had to overcome. This is was done with pure class, smartness and reality of the Sopranos. Now we need a Many Saints of Newark 2.
