I was 15 in 1980 and was waiting for the “next Beatles” to come and take over the music world. If you lived that period like I did, this was the post-disco and the heart of punk during the height of The Clash, CBGB grads and right before the dawn of commercial MTV. From Ireland, here they came, Bono and his buddies U2! That was exciting…Boy, October, then War exploded onto America and we never looked back. The “next Beatles” were here and we did find what we were looking for.
Now it’s 2023, U2 is still here and “Songs Of Surrender” still shows the creativity of one of the greatest bands to ever exist. Yes, this is a box set of many of their classics BUT redone so perfectly that they become reborn as new songs. Listen to Beautiful Day or Pride or even One and you will hear why U2 still matters in 2023.
