Its incredibly underrated and misunderstood. Will Always be a cult classic. Especially in psychedelic circles. "This is not a good town for psychedelic drugs!" Some people see it as a comedy, some think its a drama, its mostly surrealism in my opinion. some people just dont like it, but if you're a Hunter S Thompson fan, or you like unconventional films or the subject matter (which involves both hilarious experiences tripping and also terrifying ones, the whole movie is made like its one long mescaline trip). It touches on some very interesting things like the core of the hippie movement and the 70's decade, in some ways the social hangover. If you like Terry Gilliam from Monty Python you might also wanna give this a shot. It is a love or hate film
