Hmmm... Mixed feelings. On the one hand it all felt rather contrived and pretentious, with - for example - the snippets of French (at least one of them incorrect), and other somewhat unconvincing attempts to come across as high-brow or aristocratic. Also, what kind of life of deprivation involves drinking Chateau D’Yquem and eating veal and pâté de foie gras!? On the other hand, parts of it were engaging and funny, and some passages beautifully written. I didn’t love it, or hate it.
