This might be a spoiler alert (I'll try not to) but so many of the reviews on here seem to want the catastrophic blockbuster ending that Hollywood would usually give us- end of the world scenarios and lots of CGI destruction...but that is not what this movie is about. The tension and suspense...and the disbelief that a nuclear event is in progress (maybe...?) is what gives this story it's power and realistic portrayal of the possibility- the potential that a nuclear war might be beginning. Great cast, interesting pacing of the unfolding events...and Kathryn Bigelow knows how to make a good movie, that leaves so many questions unanswered, it might disappoint those wanting an obvious and predictable conclusion.

Maybe I'm just too stupid (and old) to get it, but I am struggling to find any continuity in this series. I will go back and watch it all again once the season is done, but as of now, the whole storyline confuses the hell out of me...or just doesn't engage me enough to care what's happening! Ridley Scott produced (I think) the 2 best sci-fi movies ever made- Alien and Blade Runner...and his involvement is the only reason I'll go back and try to make sense of it all! The 3 stars are for the high production values- it is well shot but otherwise...what the hell??

Honestly couldn't be bothered to watch it to the end ( the curse of streaming versus paying to buy a seat at the cinema, I guess)...and I'm a big Stath fan. The Beekeeper was great...and JS does what he does well in pretty much everything he does...but this just got a bit tedious for me- and I lost interest in the outcome I'm afraid? I'm assuming he kills all the bad guys and everything is hunky dory in the end...as per usual. Didn't do it for me though...

First half of the movie- interesting, a bit artsy and gory for sure- something akin to a David Cronenberg movie (with a bit of Wes Anderson thrown in). And then it gets silly. I couldn't even be bothered to watch the last part as it descended into a mess. Started with an interesting premise for sure, but the idea that this mad bio tech was just given away for free to the willing participants seemed a bit daft.

I'm glad I didn't pay to sit in a cinema to watch this. It's not bad...not bad at all, but with such a young cast (mostly not well known) I feel it was trying to re-boot some elements for a younger audience...and I'm not sure that worked that well. Having said that...it was pretty solid- good special effects for the most part, and certainly a lot less concerned with the conceptual nonsense from last few Alien franchise movies. We got some terror, some horror (which is what we want) and a few logistical quirks which worked sometimes...but not all the time. As ever the standout elements were H R Gigers original Xenomorph visuals...which I doubt will ever be surpassed.

The character development and quality writing is what makes this so compelling...as well as the twists and turns of the story. Superb acting from all the primary players make it feel real and edgy. A tour de force, unlike any other series I've seen. Already into season 4 and it's just great...

Best show of 2021 by a country mile...in fact best show in a long, long time. It would be selling it short to say it was like Ray Donovan with a taste of Tarantino for good measure....just superb writing, acting and a gritty realism that is both emotionally charged and hard hitting- as well as funny. A real tour de force- and not to be missed.

Watch it if you can. The disappointment that some felt over the ending was understandable...when something so magnificent and beautifully wrought comes to an end, there is bound to be anger, disillusion and social media uproar. Forget all of that. It is not to be missed- a sprawling, Shakespearean spectacle with love and hate, sex and violence, tenderness and brutality...a journey into another world that goes beyond fantasy or science fiction. Just watch and be transported.
