I had neverheard of Brendan Fraser but saw him last week on The Graham Norton show with a "trailer" from The Whale...then I read all the glowing reviews so took myself to see it yesterday. Well, I can't say I enjoyed it and the scenes with Charlie stuffing himself with non-nutritional food, were "unpalatable". I am not religious and quite liked Ellie's rants against the Godloving brigade....I do have a few religious friends and I respect them (if not their beliefs)...but, to each his own. As I do say "there has to be a higher force, or God help us!" Yes, Brendan's acting was "a tour de force" and I was very impressed with the prothetics used to enlarge his frame....the ending was somewhat confusing re Ellie reading her essay, written when she was 8 years old? ....I like to watch movies which show a depth of character and am not into the "action" genre so am not criticising it on account of no "gung ho": input....obviously I am in the minority here after reading through scores of glowing endorsements and only 3 stars so far, mine makes the 4th! ...Worth watching though I cannot recommend it to my friends; up to them to go see it and perhaps we can agree to disagree (we often do!).

Spectacular! I can't add more to the posirtive reviews from other viewers of this movie....there were 5 of us in the cinema on Friday and one lady and I waited through all the credits and expressed our admiration for this film...."Girl Power" was her enthusiastic comment and that sure said it all. I hadn't thought the African scenery would be so beautiful, green and lush when I expected dust and dirt. And the living quarters...amazing, even an indoor pool! I did wonder at the very clean, well cut outfits worn by the traineer warriors, and the exquisite garments worn by their leaders, should I mention the King? So not sure the "haute couture" on display was entirely representative of garments worn at that time, in those circumstances....but ..who cares? A brilliamt epic; maybe a fairy tale but one for we senior citizens and the battle scenes would be adequate fare for those fans of the "action" genre. A must see on the Big Screen!

Sorry to disagree with all the positive reviews but this movie was too long and too loud; I am not accustomed to sitting still for 2hours 40 minutes and kept longing for the movie to end: but Austin Butler gave a tour de force and deserves occulades for his performance.....however the film fell down in that Elvis and Prisilla did not age and both looked the same all the way through..was waiting to see the overweight, bloated, unhealthy looking Elvis in his final years but only at the end did we see this and his face was indeed bloated...presumably the prothetics departrment had got to work on Austin, at last. Elvis's voice was his gift and Austin gave a credible rendition of a unique voice: on the up side, the cars vintage 1950-70's are worth seeing for anyone who loves these magnificent machines; and the stage outfits were fantastic...love those belts! But 2hours 40 minutes: could have been edited and maybe more of what led Elvis to his massive pill-taking (no wonder he suffered constipation!) habit, be provided.

I discovered Murdoch Mysteries several years ago and am a devoted viewer of this fine series...lhowever, for several months they are repeats of episodes from 2011...used to be 3 showing late Thursday nights and they were mixed regarding the year of production so you could watch pre-the Murdoch-Ogden marriage then another when they are married so it could be confusing for anyone not used to watching this absolutely wonderful series and Yannick is so easy on the ageing female eye!! Lately there is one episode showing on another channel I think...when will we have series 14 here on Oz? I don't have pay TV, so if this what is required then I am going to miss out.
