Is this a good movie? Absolutely. Is it a good movie as part of the larger storyline it is contained within? Meh. The overall plot fits in well. However, the directorial style is jarring when contrasted to the previous saga entries. There will be countless Star Wars projects in upcoming years. Any of those would have been a great opportunity for this type of experiment. Realistically, this entry should have focused on leading us to the final entry rather than trying to be something clever or different. Going into this movie...be ready for fun...be ready for some breathtaking visuals...be ready for a big uptick in slapstick comedy moments...be ready to ignore the laws of nature and physics (even more than usual for Star Wars)...be ready for some eye-roll inducing life lesson teaching moments... and be ready for a bunch of not subtle political messages. Thanks to a completely earnest and sincere scene I now know that it isn't just the government of the Empire that is evil and ruining the Galaxy. ALL rich people are also evil and ruining the Galaxy. Who knew? Thanks for that useful insight Mr. Johnson. Anyway... Overall, it's a great way to spend a couple of hours. Just be ready for the things I mentioned above if you are expecting it to feel like a part of the main Star Wars saga.
