I loved the book and I loved the movie. In between I also saw JD Vance speak. It’s a very compelling story. The movie varies somewhat from the book but what movie doesn’t? The movie was intense and sometimes hard to watch- the drug scenes in particular. The acting by Glenn Close and Amy Adams was amazing. I don’t think the movie was political although you can view anything through a political prism if you want. The odds Mr. Vance faced could have been in another setting, but the specific migrating that goes on between Kentucky and Ohio gave his story a unique and interesting glimpse into that region’s phenomenon. Some of the people that are complaining about the movie are from Appalachia and I get it- I’m from Cleveland!
