I absolutely fell in love with the original dying light they had so many elements perfect. I've spent a whole full day with Dying light 2 and it just seems all over the place.
One big star was lost for me because it doesn't feel as brutal when you hit the zombies or players anymore, it feels stiff and the hitboxes are weird. Dropping a head off or limb doesn't feel as impactful as it used to.
I also hate the new stamina mechanic because it honestly doesn't make any sense. So at the beginning of the game your character can do parkour effectively but climbing a ladder for 10 seconds is too much of a task and you actually fall off the ladder which is so stupid. They really messed up with this one.
When the original story started there was a lot of potential but quickly got lost in repetitive and tedious tasks which seem like they were put in the game to lengthen it as opposed to adding quality or substance.
I'm trying to be empathetic for the sheer fact that some of this development was done during covid but there isn't anything groundbreaking about it for me so far. It definitely doesn't feel like a next-gen game and almost feels like it's on par with a far cry 6 feel.
I'm going to put a bit more time into this game but I feel like I'm going to end up being disappointed. Here's hoping I get to change this review later but so far I'd say wait for when it goes on sale.
