From the PS2 era it's sad to see what this game has become. Each release this game looks more and more and more like phantasy star online and less like monster hunter. What made this game fun and unique wasn't the weapons or the monsters but the actual game play loop.
Ive watched my bf play this game and this entry is specifically a 60$ dauntless. If u wanna just run to a boss, skip the hunt, and just punch something till it dies... Epic has a game for free that does that.
I don't hate this game, I'm sure there's a fan base for it some where but lately monster hunter games have become very blahzeh. In the past every weapon had a reason or need
Now with monster hunter world weapons are fashion accessories and "look cool" no one cares that there's actually 4 sheild weapons when, that the guns are practically trash in favor of the bow. Kind of crazy because the guns in the past were almost a necessity on all hunts. Now u can just buff urself with horns and insect glaives, why bother farming up ammo and shooting players with demon rounds.
I can't change what's popular, but it's pretty damn sad that they still use the name monster hunter in a game where hunting and surviving is second nature. If u think it's worth 60$ to play a game where all u doing is mounting some animal and bee lining it across the map to kill something to make decorations. Then this game is for you,
If you really wanted an experience that was hunting monsters. Then u need to go back atleast 2-3 iterations of this game. Before weapons, unlimited Ammo bows and flashy weapon skills became the focus, and the focus was on the hunt. No dogs, cats, elf's, crazy ladies and fireflies to hold your hand. Just u a human, and other humans hunting and killing an elusive main monster (after petting the pig and drinking a few beers).
