So I guess I had high hopes of this- but only because of the article detailing the director claiming to care about the franchise. Let me start off by saying I was disappointed. The whole thing was rushed- and weird. Lots of screaming jumping-at-you zombies. The director was true to the new age horror of movies in that sense. Pretty lame. I feel like he could have taken it slowly, handled it delicately, made each encounter of horror sporadic, that they might be that much more terrifying. But nope. They were in the mansion for like ten minutes. He completely failed to capture the atmosphere of terror and isolation. I don't think he actually played the games. Or even watched a walkthrough. I also hate what he did with Wesker, and Leon. First of all Wesker is a cold, calculating man on a mission, not this idiot boy they created. And Leon in this film seemed completely pointless, "I don't know why I'm a cop, yeah I suck, haha," what? Leon was a rookie but not because he sucked. Because it was literally his first day. But he had ambition. This film sucked. Sorry, but it did. I have more nostalgia toward the first Resident Evil movie with Mila Jovovich even though Alice is a made-up person in terms of the story. This movie was not good. And incredibly rushed. Director did not care about it at all- seems like he wanted to make another action flick and pretend to do that in the spirit of the games. He failed. I liked the actor that played Claire, that's probably about it. I hope to God someone else tries again in my lifetime because this needs to be told correctly.
