This brilliant documentary connects the dots for those who believe that violence and criminality is inherently Black. Quite to the contrary, you see how black labor has been commodified from the captivity of slavery through several successively more modern forms of captivity and incarceration. What is revealed is a history of how whites have profited from these systemic reforms in ways that are made to look like progress when in fact they simply are keeping a good thing going, as viewed by the capitalist who rakes in the dough. This is why abolition of policing and the prison industrial complex is a must for human evolution. We must learn to build societies that do not create crime and until we do, we must find far more humane ways to rehabilitate criminalized innocents, some of whom become conditioned to criminality.
