Being a lifelong Halloween and horror movie fan, this movie was very underwhelming and disappointing. A lot of the scenes were cringe and cliché. I did like the idea of the plot and where it was going but it was not executed well at all. The most annoying parts of horror movies to me is where the killer is down and no one does the finishing blow. Obviously this is one of the biggest horror movie clichés but there were so many moments in this movie where the Michael could be killed or double tapped but of course the characters turn into brain dead zombies with no common sense. For example when the couple that were dressed as a nurse and doctor were in the car, there was so much time for them to either run and shoot Michael while he was occupied with nurse chambers. The wife seemed to disappear after she got out of the car when in reality she would have been right behind him with a HEAVY PISTOL. Additionally, the way the movie separated characters so they could die 1 by 1 was lazy. WHY in the world were little and big nick going through the house separately when they should not have been going through the house in the first place. They saw a bloody hand print and they live in Michael Meyers old house. The movie also made it very clear that everyone in town were getting phone notifications and watching the news about murders that took place earlier that night and it being thought to be connected to Michael. Scenes that this make it hard to enjoy and I can usually look past the "dumb" characters because it's very apparent in horror movies.
On the good side of things, I really liked how it put us straight into the events after the first movie. Also the flashbacks at the beginning I did not mind and brought more depth to the movie. I was happy they gave the sheriff with the cowboy hat more scenes because he is an interesting character that was introduced in the first movie but was in it briefly. I also loved the way Michael's mask looked with the wear and tear along with fire damage.
There was a ton of kills and gore which I loved (even though the scenes where Michael was taking on more than one person were sooooo cheesy) because it is not a usual approach for a Halloween franchise movie to have Michael kill that many people. The worst part of the movie by far had to of been the ending, I'm not gonna go into detail but if you watched it you know how sloppy and dumb it was.
I have high hopes for the next film and that they learn from these mistakes and keep the gore and kills. Overall, 4/10.
