Surprised by the low ratings for this film. A top criticism seems to be unanswered questions about the Death Angels. What are they? Where do they come from? I'm okay not knowing. We can't definitely explain the existence of the human species; reasonably, we couldn't explain theirs either. I enjoyed this one more than the second in the series. Lupita Nyong'o performed brilliantly. Though, I'll admit this one's more of a drama than a horror. But the ending—the very last scene: perfection.

Childish and boring, A Haunting in Venice is neither a mystery nor horror. It uses Agatha Christie's name value to draw viewers. The film bases its characters on her novel Halloween Party, but doesn't follow the book's narrative or plot in the faintest. One star because of this bait-and-switch.

It's a dysfunctional and perverse fairy tale. And I say that as a compliment. Instead of vying for the affection of Prince Charming, Cinderella vies for the favoritism of a neurotic Queen. Olivia Coleman as Queen Anne totally owns it. Admittedly, I caught myself checking the time toward the end of the film. But, if you're up for a raunchy and bizarre ride, it's worth a watch.

Better than I thought it would be. It's a typical romcom in the 'Taming of the Shrew' flavor, unique only in that it has a diverse cast compared to most films in the genre. Romcoms aren't my thing, but I'd recommend it if you're usually into them.
