Let me just start with Emerald City IS magnificent. It's visually stunning, intellectually stimulating, and the storyline is a satisfying enticement. Giving classic tales a new spin (when done properly) is a fine way to keep a story alive in our fickle pop-culture world. Unfortunately, Emerald City was preceded by massively popular, mildly heartfelt and PG-13 remixes like Once Upon A Time. I say unfortunate only because Once Upon A Time is tailored similarly to so many other pop-culture TV Series. That being it appeals to a broader audience. Emerald City is from the very beginning, tragic, provocative, and haunting in the most poetic way. Personally, i found it refreshing, in that it speaks to a perceptive and mature audience. That is just my personal opinion.
I truly wish that NBC had not cancelled season 2 of Emerald City but I'm still holding out hope that I may one day see 'Emerald City' come to life once again.
