Ready Player One is a visual feast, with the nostalgia and Easter eggs factoring in almost every scene, but saying this I also had a bit of tough time making sense of the world it was set in. In the novel you get a clear sense of the world that the character that lived in it, the villains had motives that felt threatening, and every character our protagonist met wasn't just another "i-am-just-in-this-competition-to-win-but-i-dont-know-how-to-get-there-without-the-main-character's-help". I get that the entire scope of the novel wouldn't fit in 150 min long movie and I really liked the movie as another sci-fi flick, but it just lacked the depth, character building and world building the novel introduced. (I really hope someone would make a video game of this novel)
