To start, there’s one thing that I’d like to make clear:
This isn’t an *amazing* generational movie. The professional critics seemingly entered the theater expecting a film with an incredible, mind blowing plot that drives the events and characters of the film (Endgame is still fresh in the mind).
If you go to see impressive and witty, yet also realistic and truly reaction-inducing writing, you will leave disappointed.
If you go to see Godzilla fight monsters for 2 hours, you will probably leave happy like I did.
There is an excessive amount of nitpicking about this film and it is really bothersome. The plot in this movie exists to give some form of background to why Godzilla and other monsters are stomping around, shooting lasers at eachother and just causing general destruction for whatever reasons they have. The human characters aren’t exactly memorable and at times get annoying, yes, but not so much as to derail you from what is important in this type of movie; giant freaking monsters.
The visuals and audio are masterfully done, and if you’re a true Godzilla fan, you will appreciate the detail they put into classic monsters from the run of movies produced in Japan. The fight scenes take front and center when they occur, and it’s simply epic.
TLDR; not a perfect film, but a very fun one, and worth a few hours to see.
