I was so bummed when I watched this show....
I read all the books growing up, and was so excited to hear Nancy Drew was getting air time... Some of the changes made to modernize it I was able to overlook, but some of it just made me angry. A lot of the storyline the writers have going in season 1 contradicts things Nancy believed in the books. The biggest issue for me is that there are real ghosts. The series always had a reasonable explanation for “hauntings”, but this show is for whatever reason trying to mesh with Supernatural or something.
It isn’t set in River Heights, she is a rebellious brat, she has a super rocky relationship with her father, Hannah the housekeeper isn’t even in it, and the show changed all her best friends’ character developments (Carson is a pretty shady guy instead of being the picture of integrity, Bess has brown hair rather than blonde and has a creepy obsession with a family who may or may not be related to her, George has long hair and is very cynical and standoffish rather than a quirky tomboy, with a drunk mother and an inexplicable connection to the spirit world, and Ned’s name is Nick and he’s basically just a booty call), etc.
I wish they’d kept more of the book’s integrity intact because that is the Nancy that people already love. I also wish that they would solve one mystery per episode similar to the way Supernatural runs rather than having the same plot ongoing like Riverdale. Maybe that’s just me.
