The first part of the movie focuses on Freddie's upbringing and although he comes across a bit introvert and freaky you slowly warm to his character and determination to succeed in the music business and ultimately become a huge star partly to prove to his father that he could. The hairstyles, clothes, and people take the viewer back to the barmy 70s and 80s and reminds you just how big Queen became and despite an establishment terrified of different things and people and the wrath of Mary Whitehouse and plain silliness Queen conquered the world.
Climbing that lavish ladder though also brought about band arguments, a legend of sharks, groupies and hangers on. Freddie and the band kept the creative juices flowing but outside forces bore down on them and ultimately freddie succumbed to the drugs and Sadly AIDS. The final part of his life was tragic and tearful to watch but for all those who grew up with the legendary band we are reminded that perhaps they too should have had a palace with guards in the heart of London.
