SPOILERS AHEAD: Im going to give my thoughts as I progress into the Pilot episode having no clue what the synopsis is.
Watched 10 minutes in. The pace feels too fast. Almost comical on how it’s set up. I feel I’m watching a family spy movie. The seriousness fades from the positioning of our actors and the setting. It is TOO MUCH and feels exaggerated. The way the notecards are being presented and the reactions, it did not feel there was much of a unsettling reaction as the audience should feel. From the scenes of our main Character (The Queen) with her father, as a native Russian speaker I always feel on the edge on how it’s being presented (I’m always thankful for subtitles since most of the time actors who speak Russian, sounds like straight up gibberish!) here at least it was so minimal so I didn’t have to worry. Although, the narration and how the scenes were presented felt it could have been more solemn.
I can understand because of the urgency of the bank heist, the scenes are feeling short BUT the scene where Agent Turner is meeting her inmate husband and the papers of divorce and the whole mood felt so rushed. The husband seemed to show no emotion as someone who was just locked up and away from their loved one. Did not give feelings of husband and wife. I feel that scene could have stretched a bit further and the actors could have been more delicate with their reactions. It’s a sad circumstance. And as she brushes to go work I feel we could have had more of a moment to see her pondering her position as a cop and her husband being incarnated and how he feels that has affected their dynamic. The transition to her arriving to the scene feels as though we did not even witness the prior scene. I can’t even sympathize from how this show presented itself. These beginning scenes could have honestly dragged a bit to show emotion.
The heist scenes, I did enjoy haha, reminds me of Casa De Papel. This show seems a bit comical. It’s probably a drama show. I prefer shoes that make me feel as though it could be “real” even though I know it is not.
Now since it’s only the first 20 minutes into this. Some of the actors feel a bit comical but if there was a want for “realness”, I did not feel that from the acting. It can also be the direction of the directors and the screenplay. I do feel the screenplay could be worked a bit better, the punchy back to back talking between the characters is very outdated.
I decided I will not watch past the 20 minutes mark, unless I feel in a different mood to watch it. This show seems enjoyable so do not feel deterred from my review. The story seems new and different and it’s nice having female leads. I was thinking of Killing Eve when I saw this but realized away it has a complete different way of story telling. This is all my opinion and you may have your own.
