I nearly gave this a one star, but, I just couldn't.
The Good:
Well, the pre-rendered video cut scenes are really nice.
The Bad:
Way overpowered monsters, many bugs, disconnects, etc. The skill tree is terrible. I honestly have no idea how this was ever approved. The item crafting with the aspects is also a joke. Another head scratcher here.
I think I solved the game, but just before credits rolled, I saw something about Act VI. The game is clearly not complete, but I don't want to give any spoilers.
Then there is the movement. Lots of times I hit invisible barriers ( which can be a sign of connection issues ) and other times pressing space for boost of speed plays the sound, but the character's rate of movement ( mounted or on foot ) doesn't change.
When fighting, casting certain spells moves the player, and this is not good as it can pull you into a puddle of ooze that drains energy.
The potion system has to go. Timeout is much better than having a temporary fixed number of potions.
In general, it is just too hard to win, even in low-tier games. Some fights can literally take over 30 minutes. OK, so I like a challenge, but when you get a disconnect 10 or 15 minutes into the fight, the frustration mounts. BTW, this just happened before I decided to write this review.
If you haven't bought the game, I strongly recommend that you wait. They must know that the game is not being received well by now and will need to do something to encourage us gamers to buy the content that they should have included...which is the next point of the bad.
No sets. Nope. None. You have to basically extract powers and then apply them to items. It is terrible.
Finally, for a life long sorc fan, mana management is absolutely broken in this game. This is part of the reason it takes forever to kill big bosses...you just run out of mana so easily.
Now, I don't expect to roll around and slay enemies with a glance, but this is a joke.
For the first time, I am very concerned about the direction this game is taking. How in the world did the beta testers, game developers and others ever decide this was a polished product. I conjecture that they must be playing with a very high level of knowledge and also a high level character. To have to plod on from the start is just mind-numbingly boring.
Finally, they broke the balance between being able to play and advance and needing a PHD to uber-max a build to reach the highest tiers...oh, and no greater rifts either.
Also, it is a massive download at around 80GB.
