This movie gives a really insightful portrayal into the future of American manufacturing in a globalized economy. The film follows American and Chinese workers at a glass manufacturing plant in Dayton, Ohio, owned by the Chinese company, Fuyao. The company has taken over a recently shuttered GM factory, hired a couple thousand American employees to work there, and brought in a few hundred Chinese employees to train and supervise the new employees. While the film touches on some very wide-scale issues, one of the things that the filmmakers do really well is to personalize these issues by following the individual workers and their relationships to each other, to their work, and to the company. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the film is the differing attitudes towards work between the American and Chinese employees. I would definitely recommend watching the movie, but I would also be curious to hear more of the Chinese perspective.
