im gonna be fr as an indigenous person myself I found the way they threw out the message of ohana at the end for the whole "give up your family to the state and pursue a shiny new life!" goal to be fucking ridiculous and ruin the whole point of what the movie stood for in 2002.
I am indigenous puerto rican, not native hawaiian, however, I grew up in Hawaii, many of my friends are native hawaiian, and many of them have expressed to me how insulting they found the ending of this movie to be. The original was pretty clearly a commentary on how native Hawaiians are mistreated in their own land, all to often in history indigenous families are torn apart by the state. To throw away all the original wanted to say for the sake of "reality" is stupid because there's nothing realistic about a blue alien dog coming to Hawaii.
There are so many things about this movie I could rant about, the fact nani's actress isn't native Hawaiian and she was spray tanned, the assassination of MANY characters, especially Jumba, but I don't need to. Just watch the original.
Disney is too afraid to take risks anymore and when they do come up with new ideas they barely make an effort to promote them, it's sad to see how soulless this company has become. I'd tell Disney to do better but we all know they don't care lol.
Anyways, yall fed this slop 300 million so whateverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
