We're enjoying the series. Emilia Fox acts well in it, Tara Fitzgerald is underused. The stories are ok, the scenery and settings are beautiful of course. There's a welcome absence of violence and the need for everything to be 'dark', in all senses of the word. Not many ad breaks on the UKTV Play version, which is another bonus.

Possibly the most intelligent police drama on television in recent years. The sensitivity and emotional intelligence displayed by Cassie and her team towards both victims and perpetrators of the crimes are very rare qualities in this genre, or any genre, come to that. The stories deal with all the characters caught up in the events in a way that takes into account their whole lives, and also deal with the impacts that the crimes and their repercussions have on their families and careers and each aspect of their lives. The crimes are not just puzzles to be solved as in the run of the mill whodunnits. The depth of reality shown in an understated but profound way mean that the impact on the viewer is quietly but deeply powerful and often unsettling. There's an element of There but for the grace of God about each of the crimes, for some of the protagonists at least. Highly recommended viewing.

I'm not a regular viewer of Grand Designs but we generally tune in to watch the RIBA House of the Year programmes. I'm not a huge fan of the rather pretentious commentary in the general programmes but the format of the HOTY programmes makes it worthwhile to tolerate it. The houses chosen are often beautiful, sometimes ugly. I enjoy the segments which look at the bespoke manufacturers of the details included in the houses' designs.
