I love AHS but I found in recent seasons that the first couple of episodes start off well but just go downhill. This season the plot shifted and went in a direction that was not what I expected. There was very little apocalypse which completely ruined my enjoyment of the show. I feel that since Coven's comedy aspect went down so well, the writers have tried to push this into every season since and it hasn't worked. AHS apocalypse being exhibit A.
