Hello there, I watched the movie first day, first show. It is attracting insane amounts of praise and criticism alike. The critics claim it glorifies misogynistic abusive behaviour. On the surface it seems to be so. But there are other facets to the character, Kabir Singh is an angry, sadistic self-destructive man who ultimately realizes that he doesn’t like himself except for his profession. He loves and loves with all his intensity without considering any societal norms, inter-personal boundaries or marital status of his ‘bandi’. I think he is not particularly misogynistic but rather an obsessive, violent lover who is willing to adopt other man’s child too.
“Suffering is personal”, as noted by a matured character in movie; but Kabir singh splashes it everywhere on everyone. Only to realize in the end that he needs liberation, not from his break-up but from his own non-sensical rage. Also, it shows that hallucinating yourself from reality will not heal you.
Personally, I would have liked a stronger/ more dominant woman lead. However, in the end Preeti finds her voice and does something unexpected from her character as shown in the first half. What happens in the end is for you to watch.
Stellar performance by Shahid Kapoor and noteworthy performances by Arjan Bajwa(brother) and Soham Majumdar(friend). Movie is gripping and deserves a watch in the theatres. Amidst all the rage, violence, as an audience you can still see the ‘love-story’. No one’s ethics should be so weak so, as to be swayed by a movie: an art-work of fiction.
