No idea, why there is so much hate for this. But I can say that this is one of the most impressive space sci-fi of all time. The story is really good as interesting and real as it can get. Also, it makes you think about various dilemmas one can face while space travel. The acting is superb, yes there are a few characters and plots which could have improved but one can simply ignore them in light of the greatly executed storyline. The antagonistic part of the story is really good as it does not want other people to find their weaknesses and also doesn't want to massacre people so it executes the carrot-and-stick approach at first. The protagonistic part doesn't want to be enslaved and fight for freedom which exactly is a tussle between the colonizer and ruled subject.
