The dialogue in English is fantastic and the world they made was very enjoyable. I really like the gambit system, it’s a cool way of making a strategy game and not a Zelda action adventure game. It’s fun to strategize while the gambits take care of boring repetitive actions.
I also enjoyed the class system, it reminds me of ffv in the sense that you get to combine two classes. It’s great complimenting two fairly different classes like a black mage and monk to make a really durable and strong character. It’s also great that MP is rechargeable, either through innate skills where you gain my when you give/take damage etc or using Syphon on melee characters in your party or even just running. It resolves a lot of the problems mages had in the ff series to this point.
What’s frustrating is how hard it is to get basic things in the game. The random treasure chests that can often be hard to see and make getting simple things like ribbons almost impossible to get even with a strategy guide. So many things in the game are like this.
Many of the technicks don’t seem well planned out. So many are basically worthless but so challenging to find. Shades of black basically makes black magic unnecessary until late game. So basically just melee and healing/buffs are the only thing that matters. Many repetitive enemies, and the loot/bazaar is way too complicated and involved to enjoy.
It’s an excellent but very flawed game. I do think the gambit system is really great , but many of the levels are uninteresting. The final dungeon is a giant tower but there are now views outside and just dark same-y brick walls.
