Space Chimps is both a blessing and a curse.
I first watched this movie in a dark cabin deep in the woods. Seriously. My relatives have a vacation cabin up in the mountains, secluded from the rest of the world. When I was a young kid, my family spent some time at this cabin.
The only DVD at this cabin was Space Chimps. There was no Internet signal up in those mountains, so the only way to entertain ourselves was to watch Space Chimps on an old 90s TV. None of my siblings wanted to watch this movie, but we had no other choice.
The sound of the movie drowned out the growling of the bears outside. The movie was comforting in a bizarre way. The movie was a beacon of light in a world surrounded by darkness.
I barely remember this movie. I only faintly recall images of poorly rendered monkeys fighting fat aliens. For some reason, I remember people getting frozen in concrete. Weird movie.
After watching this movie, my siblings went to bed. I speak for all of them when I say we all had bizarre fever dreams. Monkeys, aliens, and concrete all filled our heads. I remember waking up in the middle of the night, the silence of the mountains deafening. The memories of Space Chimps filled my mind, and I was both comforted and terrified. I quickly forced myself back to sleep, likely only to endure another Space Chimps fever dream.
Every time I visited that cabin, Space Chimps was waiting for me. Recently, however, I haven't seen the Space Chimps DVD. I can only assume someone has burned it in the large fireplace by the TV. I haven't bothered to dig through its remains.
In conclusion, Space Chimps is an ancient relic from the depths of my past. I try to forget about it, but it still haunts me in my nightmares.
