As a fan/collector of Star Wars for over 20 years I really wanted to like this show, I really did. The Mandalorian was a great show, perhaps because he was a brand new character and we all had no idea what to expect from him as we do Boba Fett. What I do know of Boba Fett from the movies and (admittedly non-canon) books though is nothing like the Boba Fett of this series. Gone is the cold, calculating icon of bad-assery, here to stay is the gentile guy who dances the Riverdance with Tuskens and now is the head of the Tatooine chapter of the Fast and Furious swoop gang. Plain and simple, this is *not* Boba Fett. In the back of my mind I keep thinking that Disney will correct this by saying ‘Boba’ has been Jaster Mereel all along and the real Boba will show up later in the show but due to the flashbacks I highly doubt this is the course they will take. As such, this show is basically a watered down Mandalorian 2.0 as we are following another Mandalorian but this one doesn’t even have the ambition to get in his ship and go to other planets. Boba went from the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy to one who is content to be some ‘crime-lord’ over one city on one of the most back-water planets in the galaxy. A sad ending to a once legendary character.
