I am a big Star Wars fan, I saw A New Hope at the drive in theater in 1977 and have since been a mega Star Wars nerd. The Force Awakens was a great movie, kind of a throw back to Episode Four, but I really liked it. The Last Jedi ruined Star Wars for me, to the point that I have no desire to see Rise of Skywalker, or watch Mandalorian.
The biggest issues for me are the unrealistic space chase, the side plot trip to the casino, the lack of development of Snoke, Rey is way too powerful for not having the required training, and a very disappointing treatment of Luke Skywalker.
Regarding the space battle, the bombers at the beginning were just ridiculous. Anybody that understands warfare knows that an in an arms race, you design and build weapons to be effective and survivable. The bombers were slowwwww!!!! They were cumbersome!!!! They deserved to be destroyed, because they were terrible weapons of war. The whole space chase just defies logic and engineering. Those massive, First Order battle ships couldn’t catch up to the resistance ships? Come on, the engines on those ships were massive, big engines means big power and the ability to overcome the inertia of these ships! The arcing trajectories of the First Order turbo lasers? There is no gravity that would cause such arcing! And then hyperspace jumping a ship to turn it into a missile? I imagine that in the thousands of years that hyperspace was possible, they would have figured out this trick a long time ago. The rebellion could have hyperspace jumped a Correllian Corvette into the first Death Star and caused a tremendous amount of damage, and then a Mon Cal cruiser into the second Death Star! Hyperspace missiles would be a heck of a weapon in any Star Wars Universe arsenal.
The space battle issues alone were enough to ruin the movie for me. I’m not going to get into the other issues, this horse has already been beaten enough, but I am sad beyond measure that The Last Jedi ruined this epic story for me.
