The reason why mainstream media hates this movie is because the smug film critics criticizing it more then likely don't understand it because they have had a sheltered upper middle class upbringing also they hate the fact that it portrays the struggle of poor low income appalachian americans who they love to make fun of because they aren't the kind of poor people they pretend to care about and maybe perhaps made them feel a slight sense of guilt. Which further angers them because they are "always right".
