Acting is phenomenal. Phoenix did a great job. Music fit very well with the movie and the dark tone. The filming was good.
Now we get to the bad parts.
The big problem is that this Joker is a far cry from the Villain that is almost universally considered the greatest in comic book history. The Joker is a genius villain. Evil and psychotic yes but always able to give Batman a challenge. In this movie he’s a madman who gets lucky. Nothing is planned it just kinda happens. For sure, the Chaos that the Joker creates is on par but the fact that nothing is planned takes away an aspect of how evil this villain really is.
How they pictures Thomas Wayne made me furious. Thomas Wayne is a doctor. One that often encourages others to help those who are in horrible straights. In fact, in some story lines, this generosity is what gets him killed. Just cause they have money doesn’t make them bad.
The way they portrayed Gotham was even wrong. Yes Gotham is a bad place. But it’s not because people horde money. It’s actually very similar to our world today. People are so envious of those who have more. The movie actually did a good job of painting a picture of today’s generation in that regard. But that wasn’t Gotham’s problem. Gotham’s problem was the criminal element. The gangs and the mafia that forced people into them because they would be killed if they didn’t. In the comics at least the elite tried to help Gotham numerous occasions.
My criticism is more on the story than anything else.
