It is a magnum opus even before the audacious ventured to make the legendary Kalkis Ponniyin Selvan .. for several decades the story and the magnificence of the Chola Empire captured the imagination of the Tamils world over .. yet seeing it unfold as a fan boy , that too thru Midas Manis perspective is a spectacular ode to the aesthetic cinematic excellence that the man is renowned for thru the decades ably blended with AR Rahman’s musical odyssey is a treat to savour .. the stunning beauty of Trisha Kundavai , the arresting screen presence of the sublime Aishwarya Rai.. the full bodied Dravidian cast et al make it a rapturous celebration of sound & colors .. at times pedestrian in pace , the caper sparkles with astonishing grandeur that lives up to the legend .. for those who would complain of the length may not know the rich cultural tapestry & intrigue woven in the novel , the actions sequences fall short as does the animations that at times fail to measure up for the patrons of today come to expect a discerning finesse in this department .. an abrupt end notwithstanding..two thumbs up nonetheless for someone had to tell retell the story and who better than the super talented team and crew .. Kudos .. bring on Ponnin Selvan Part 2
