I started watching this show on 7/11/19 with my daughter who is 13. We actually enjoy it, as it gives us a different view into an extended family. I grew up watching shows like Family Matters, The Cosby Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, so it is good to be able to watch a show that is centered around a black family with my own children. I haven't found many shows where I can watch with them that gives you family values except shows like Fuller House and Raven's Home to name a few. Yes, the acting may appear a bit corny at times, but that makes it better to me. After doing some research, this is the first major show for the children who are starring, so it may take some time for them to develop.
For those who are commenting about the oldest daughter, it bothers me that in today's day and age, we are still shallow about complexion. I remember reading years ago about people complaining about Zendaya not being black enough for some of the roles she was supposed to play. Is it really that serious? Who cares if someone is lighter skinned or has black and white parents. I myself am light skinned and have two black parents who are darker than me. My children are darker than me. The fact that people are complaining about Jade being light or white is irrelevant. Let the young lady get her chance to act. I feel she is a really good actress and will get better with time. Lastly, the whole wig thing shouldn't be that big of a deal, but they probably did it because had she wore her real hair, which I believe is beautiful, people would further criticize about her being biracial.
If you do not like the show because you don't find it to be funny or it's not your thing is one thing, but not liking it because of the looks of the characters is a bit much.
Overall, I believe this is a good show and will get better with time. I can't wait to finish it and look forward to the next season.
