This film has been purported to be a "Comedy/Horror/Thriller".
Although the cast members, individually are each excellent, some with youthful talent, others are already well established stars, we should not blame these "ingredients" for the sour taste of this "stew". We must blame the "cooks in the kitchen" behind the camera, as the story unfolds into a crumpled mess, like so many a kitchen scraps flopping into the trash bin. I found this barely worth the time to view as it was not funny or thrilling in any way. We can, however describe this beautifully cast and photographically beautiful film to be horrible, if not a horror film, despite some mild gore/ blood.
Each actor played their part well, and taken out of the context of the entire film, any individual scene may be admired for qualities of writing, cinematography, acting, etc, however, when all edited together they will leave the viewer nearly unsympathetic if still caring towards the whole, if not towards most to the characters portrayed. I have come away from TV commercials with more thought provoking insights than this disappointment of a Ralph Feins showcase provides.
If the intention of the script was to provide us with a tense and tapered approach into the mind of a psychopathic executive chef and his robot-like cooking cult, it was lost in the execution. Not unlike the hasty and unappetizing under-cooked lamb, shallot & leek concoction one character was forced to conjure, this film too leaves me hungry for anything else, once I get the terrible taste out of my eyes of course.
