Funny, clever and saddening.
Streep enjoys herself as the amoral president alongside her knife twisting even funnier chief of staff, her son Jason Hill. They outmaneuvre the geeky, sincere exasperated scientists, Jennifer Lawrence and nervy DiCaprio.
The cleverness is replacing the climate change analogy of frog slowly warmed in a pot of water with the imminent asteroid, fixed with a Fox News Republican bow saying "don't look uo" --just simply clever.
The sadness is while this is brilliantly brought to light in satire, the two poles of look up and don't, seem immovable.
The film will start conversation and like DiCaprio's, Before The Flood, will embolden the rational. The bimodal reviews where the majority of viewers fully appreciate the film while a quarter pans it, says business as usual is not quite done in America.
