This, really sucked. Like really did. The mere audacity to make a second one after the critics slapped this mess silly is laughable. I'm usually not that harsh, but wow. I turn inside out every time this dumpster fire even shows up on my screen.
Anyways, now with that out of the way, time to give you the real spill. Venom is a below average mess that didn't even get to the main reason we were watching till like 30-40 minutes in (as any movie based on a popular character ever seems to do). Venom itself, the symbiote, is out of character; and let's not forget they can't even pronounce "symbiote" right either. Why would he insult Eddie in those ways? This is supposed to be a revenge duo dynamic, but it's done so poorly that I'd rather have Sam Raimi force me to watch Spider-man 3 a 100 times over than watch Venom one more time, and I'd totally thank him for it.
What genius in those big ol' Sony offices decided to make a Venom movie without Spider-man? Sure the comics could pull it off, but you picked Eddie Brock without a Peter. It comes off as lazy and the plot is boring. San Francisco? Why not slap him in the NYC? What repercussions does that have when you don't even have a spider-man established for the "Sony Cinematic Universe" yet?
Everyone I've talked to who doesn't know that much about Venom finds this movie fun and cool. Everyone I've talked to who does know a lot about Venom finds this movie stupid and offensively bad. I appreciate that they tried, but to anyone that has seen the best of Venom as a character, this is only something you'd watch if you wanna get stabbed with a 1000 knives and spat on by some corporate lackeys that couldn't bother to do sufficient research.
CGI was actually pretty endearing at first, but the editing ruins it. The trailers were also very poorly edited, especially with the Wilhelm scream, so expectations were low. I was VERY excited at the beginning when I saw they were doing a Venom movie, but it's such a letdown. Nobody cares about the romance, we're here for the villain/anti-hero black blob with a superiority complex.
Forbid the existence of a second movie! Carnage shouldn't be touched by the grotesque hands of these goons that clearly have no idea what they're doing. My disdain for this movie is so strong that whenever a family member mentions it they know I'm going explode. I know I'm just throwing insults instead of actually going through this movie and delicately picking it apart, but c'mon...one look at it and that's all you need. It's not as good as you think it is.
