This is one of my favorite albums of ALL time, right up there with Sgt. Pepper's and Yellow Brick Road; the combination of ethereal sounds and impacting grooves elevate the music like few few bands have accomplished before.
I possessed an original release with the track list reflected above; that particular CD found its way into another's hands. The second purchase of this CD years later had a different track listing--a couple songs were out of order and several songs were added; I didn't view this as an improvement as I had grown accustomed to the original song order. That CD also found its way into another's hands.
This is the only album I have ever purchased on three separate occasions. The third incarnation also contained an altered listing of songs as before. I suspect the original pressing is no longer distributed. I miss that original song order--I still anticipate it when I listen to the modern album.
I like that the band included Lucifer Sam as I consider Syd Barrett to be the most underrated musical influence of our time; who could imagine what he could have published had his light shined longer?
The Ball of Confusion cover does justice to that great song; I challenge anybody not to get caught up in its groove.
I'm not sure if I have a favorite song on this album; to choose wouldn't be fair. I'm not saying they are all instant classics; however, strong songwriting skills coupled with poignant lyrics throughout demand attention.
I taught myself how to play An American Dream on the guitar. I could listen to it on repeat for hours. I will do that with Love Me and Holiday on the Moon as well. I enjoy hearing two versions of All in My Mind on the same album as opposed to finding a separate EP for such instances.
I highly recommend this album for any musical enthusiast--especially those who lean towards moody sounds. Light a few candles, lower the lights, spark up your favorite herb, and listen to it in its entirety.
Enjoy!
