The Brutelist title of the movie, reflects the era of the movie post World War II. It reflects some of the people in the movie and the architecture that came about from immigrants from Europe into America. One of the furniture designs featured in the movie is by a famous architectct and he made a table and chair set out of tubular steel. I recognized the chairs that are still popular today. The designer of the chair was an Hungarian who migrated to America pre war. His name was Marcel Bruere . The movie is supposed to be based on his designs, both in architecture and in furniture. That the fictional movie character is Hungarian, and Marcel Bruere is Hungarian, that both moved to USA to be successful architects, that both designed famous buildings and furniture, you could think the movie is about Marcel Bruere and his life. However one is fiction one is not. The movie character was a survivor of a Nazi death camp. Marcel Bruere moved to London pre WWII to practice architecture and design. In 1937 he migrated to the States to be head of design at Harvard. The cast in the movie did a convincing job in their roles. The music is very effective in creating atmosphere for the story as it proceeded to it's finality. If any of the Bruere family are not enraged by this depiction of Marcel Bruere as in The Brutalist the movie, I'd be surprised.

I went to see Wicked the movie because it had received so much publicity regarding its box office success at the cinema. It has been a long running theatre production in the USA and in the UK. I have seen the Wizard of Oz movie a number of times, even so, I did not know the story of Wicked so I went to our local cinema to watch a prequel to the Wizard movie. I enjoy musical cinema productions,and I can see the effort that the performers and set designers put into the movie to bring it to life. The influences are there from other musicals such as Oliver, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. The monkey guards look like they had escaped from Planet of the Apes and acted like the had contracted the virus from I Legend. The choreography was spot on, the costumes and the group dancing sequences are a delight to watch. It was interesting to see the back story of the Wicked Witch, and to note that she was a good person who was still a person of good, despite her father's lack of affection towards her in deference to his devotion to his non green other daughter. She remains a good person and has to flee the control of a society that wants to manipulate her and her ability with magic for their own power to control their subjects, who seem to be unable to recognise goodness in the different looking people in their midst. The movie has inspired me to see the show in the theatre,so I can make a comparison with the story lines.

Going to the movies requires the viewer to suspend themselves into the land of make belief. However, that is sometimes a little difficult with some movies.Trap is a murder mystery movie with no murders and no mystery. I think the movie was made so that the director, M. Night Shyamalan can have a showcase for his daughter who appears as the singer at a concert event for her adoring fans. There seems to be no logic to the story line and I guess this is were the suspension into disbelief is required for the movie to plod along. I think the police and the FBI had no involvement in how they were portrayed as incompetents in carrying out their duties. I have seen coffee commercials that have more suspense, have a better soundtrack and a storyline and is more watchable than this big screen effort.

Beatles aficionados will have polarising opinions about their music being covered by other artists, but the Beatles themselves always thought cover versions of their songs was some times flattering and other time quite interpretive. This is another artist who lends his voice to their work and he does so in a reverent way. I enjoyed this movie. The interactions between the main characters in the movie was sincere and entertaining. The theme of the movie was heart-warming. Fans of the music of the Beatles should enjoy it as it is not taking the mick out their music, nor them as a band or as individuals. It is not a review of their music, but if you give the movie an opportunity to take you on a magical trip of “what ifs”, you may come away from the cinema appreciating the movie for what it is, joyful. I’m going to buy the DVD when it is released.
