Being one of the older players who enjoyed the original as a kid, I'm naturally a little biased towards my "ranking" of the game. When I saw the opening scene, my eyes started to water...reminiscent childhood images and sounds in my head were suddenly brought to life again by it. I'm not too deep into the game yet (I don't understand how some people have finished it, it just came out earlier today...), but I'm ecstatic with what I see so far. I understand completely why they made this episodic. This is not only a remake...its an expansion. You get to see and experience things that were not available in the original, and, frankly, not possible with the technology of the time. To cram everything into one game would mean sacrificing the quality and sheer enjoyment that I am already experiencing from the game so early in. (There's a reason the original had to be spread onto 3 discs). This game is a wonderful mash of Classic and Groundbreaking. I would suggest the older generation that played the original to start on the Classic Mode. That is what we are all used to..turn based. For the younger gen, they can hop right into normal mode if they're semi-experienced gamers. And if they bought this game, I'm sure they are...It's got similarities to FFXV.
I do believe this game was targeted at the nostalgic audience who played and loved the original...but at the same time was able make it appeal to modern gamers as well.
Like I said, my "ranking" may be biased, but I give this 5 stars...aaaaand I will update and edit this post as I play 👍👌🤘
