Where do i even start with this one. This game could have been so much. lets break it down into steps
Gameplay: 7/10 - mostly rehashed from the previous game, this is 7 years on. Few slight upgrades but it is mostly the same.
Visual: 8/10 - does look beautiful but again it is pretty similar to the first ones remaster version.
Story: 5/10 - Spoilers Ahead:
Joel gets killed off very quickly. And then later on in the game we are supposed to sympathize with such and artificially empathetic character that you cant help but laugh when we are supposed to feel sorry.
I felt so bad for this game not its characters. For 7 years i have been waiting for a love story for Ellie after the Left Behind DLC and i was so happy that Ellie and Dinas love story was touched upon and i was hopeful that this was going to be so epic. Then it all gets taken away literally in the next scene and leads the player into a story that could have been executed so well and could of had us all much more involved if we didnt have to be dragged through a story that led us into this really empty character of Abbey. You want your players to love a character, don't have that character kill a character that your player base loved so much in the previous one. Joel had his faults yes but its execution was so cheap and such a slap in the face that every moment spent playing as abbey was torture. Especially knowing it was leading up to that moment. The game tries its best to make you hate Ellie and love Abbey at every moment too least that was my impression. Why can Abbey pet dogs and Ellie has to kill every dog she sees. Why can Abbey have all the best weapons yet Ellie cant. They tried their best to make playing as Abbey fun and exciting and playing as Ellie boring. Why? This could have been easily fixed, i mean coming from a game dev standpoint myself you simply apply the mechanics of Abbey to Ellie? duhhhhh that means the devs went out of their way to restrict Ellies abilities. This treatment of characters that we grew to love in the first game is so shoddy its so clear that the director of this game had an agenda and doesnt care about the characters as much as the fans do. This could have been such a good game for the LGBT community but instead they had to sully it with some cookie cutter revenge story weak plot and an overall underwhelming story that leaves me wishing they never made a Part 2. It pains me to think of what this could have been against what it is.
