It's a poorly written version of star trek. All of what made star trek what it was they removed it to give place to yet another sci-fi series where every episode ends in a cliffhanger without any purpose other than make people watch the next one.
Star Trek was a masterpiece of sci-fi and philosophical debates. This is just a junk tv show version of that.
