I love Asher Keddie, when I saw her face I thought, goodie another offspring perhaps! But sadly no, and although she is very real & relatable as always, & the rest of the cast of relatively unknown actors were also great, what I didn’t love was the material they had to work with! It is a shame that the Evelyn character had to be such a totally out of touch mother and so very ditsy at work also, making one huge blunder after another in every sphere of her life, so bad that I came to think we were heading for some sort of neurological diagnosis! But we weren’t, just a recommendation by a psychologist for the protagonist to see a psychiatrist…! Maybe heading for this century’s favourite neurological diagnoses of adhd or being on the spectrum perhaps!! Whilst it is admirable to admit to the struggles working mothers in particular face, trying to be all things to all people in life, this script basically trivialises all the tremendous effort it takes in reality to stay on top of things, to get the laughs, but unfortunately the laughs didn’t happen for me it’s just trying too hard. So my verdict is, it failed the truth test and some moments like the used tampon removed and popped straight into the handbag in all its gory glory… well it just over egged the pudding for maximum effect. It was just downright gross and not at all believable…so quite annoying & cringy! Love Asher & the cast though, just pleeease give them a better script if a 2nd season is approved!
