As a fan of all the Toy Story movies growing up, and then being able to share those movies with my children, this was a great origin story for Buzz.
The Buzz we knew previously is a toy. It’s perfectly acceptable that the toy Buzz and the “actor” playing Buzz in the movie would have different voices. While I would have enjoyed listening to Tim Allen reprise the role, it wasn’t a deal-breaker.
The story was well thought out and the group of characters played their parts well. Buzz in particular I felt was a very human version of the toy we all know. He’s never going to be an exact replica, how could he be. They have had different life experiences which have shaped them.
In particular, I thought the time dilation aspects were very child friendly, introducing a very difficult to comprehend scientific study in a way that’s digestible to our future scientists.
The negative feedback for this movie because of the same-sex relationship is pretty absurd. It wasn’t trivialised, politicised, or even advertised, it was just normalised. A fleeting moment that has no bearing on the plot. It’s just there, like in the real world.
